Why you should consider starting early

English Language is in your top 4. While, with the right guidance, it is one of the best ways to boost your final result, suboptimal performance is also the fastest way to kill your ATAR. Clearly, significant investment of time and effort here pays dividends, and that starts with the foundational concepts you’re taught in Units 1 and 2.

In some ways, englang is like maths. You must master algebra before you can even start thinking about calculus, but calculus is its own set of skills. In this analogy, Metalanguage and foundational concepts such as Jakobson’s functions of language are algebra, and Units 3&4 tasks (SAQs, ACs and essays) are calculus. 

Also, unless you have a real affinity for the subject, all too often, things don’t fall into place for Units 3&4 students until later in the year… when the pressures of SACs force you to choose between englang (a top 4 subject) and your other studies. Going into Year 12 having already mastered a significant chunk of what you need to mitigates this.

• Learn short answer questions and analytical commentaries properly. Oftentimes, students learn simplified versions at school which are adapted to fit the Unit 2 curriculum, which unfortunately set up bad habits for these tasks the following year. 
• Detailed weekly feedback for all my assigned tasks, guaranteed, regardless of submission date. Plus additional feedback for extra practice (e.g. practice SACs) pending my availability.
• Access outside of sessions via DMs for any question.
• Ability to schedule a free 1:1 session with me during a set weekly window I call my “office hours”.
